Smart LED lamps Xiaomi Yeelight

Many readers and visitors to the site asked me to test the LED lamps of the Chinese company Xiaomi. Finally, I had the opportunity to do this.

Two types of lamps are available - YLDP01YL with white light and YLDP02YL with variable color temperature and color.

Almost all YLDP01YL lamps on Aliexpress have a color temperature of 4000K (neutral white light), but lamps of this type are also available with a warm white light of 2700K. A lamp with a color temperature of 4000K came to my test.

It is important to pay attention to the supply voltage. Xiaomi Yeelight lamps are available in both 220 and 120 volts (for example, on the website, the supply voltage of 120 V for these lamps is indicated). 120-volt lamps when trying to use them in Russian networks with a voltage of 220-230 volts will burn.

The lamps are equipped with Wi-Fi and allow you to control the brightness (in the case of YLDP01YL) or the brightness, color temperature and color (in the case of YLDP02YL) from your smartphone, using the MiHome application.

To control the brightness of these lamps using conventional dimmers will not work.

When first turned on, both lamps shine at full brightness and have a color temperature of 4000K. I measured the parameters of the lamps in this mode.

The luminous flux of the lamps was measured using a two-meter integrating sphere and a Instrument Systems spectrometer , the lighting angle and consumption characteristics of the Viso Light Spion instrument, the power consumption of the Robiton PM-2 instrument, the color rendering index, color temperature and pulsation with the Uprtek MK350D instrument .

The pulsation of light in both lamps is completely absent. Color rendering indices are quite high - these lamps can be used to illuminate residential premises. The luminous flux of the lamps is much higher than stated, the color of the lamp as much as 18%. The shape of the cap does not allow the lamps to shine back, so the angle of illumination is about 180 degrees.

The body of both lamps at work heats up to 53 degrees. When operating at maximum brightness, the lamp with white light is absolutely silent (as the brightness decreases, it begins to whistle softly), the color lamp is quietly buzzing.

To control the lamps, you need to install the MiHome application on your smartphone and create an account in it. As soon as the lamp is first turned on, it will immediately appear in the application. To connect, you must enter the password from the Wi-Fi network and, if desired, rename the lamp.

The application does not allow you to set the exact values ​​of brightness and color temperature. Everything is done "by eye". Brightness is adjusted by moving your finger up and down, color temperature - left-right.

The brightness and color in the color mode are adjusted in the same way.

As I wrote above, by default, each time you turn on the network, both lamps light up at full brightness, and color with a color temperature of 4000K. If desired, any state (color and brightness) can be memorized and upon subsequent switching on (even without WiFi) the lamp will turn on with the memorized color and brightness. There is also an auto-memory mode, when the lamp always remembers its last state.

Several lamps can be combined into groups for simultaneous adjustment of parameters and on-off (for example, when several such lamps are installed in one chandelier). There is a mode of memorizing several states (favorites), to which you can return later.

An additional set of "special effects" allows you to do such things as emulating dawn in 15 minutes, various modulations of colors, the effect of a candle and even blinking lights.

I measured the capabilities of the lamps when adjusting from the app.

The white light lamp YLDP01YL reduces the brightness to 7%. The pulsation of light when operating at a reduced brightness does not exceed 0.2%. As soon as the brightness of the lamp becomes even slightly lower than the maximum, it begins to emit a low squeak. Perhaps when you install the lamp in the chandelier it will not be heard.

Color lamp YLDP02YL allows you to change the color temperature of white light from 1900 to 6140K. It is inconvenient that the color temperature can not be set accurately. The lamp allows you to reduce the brightness to 9%. When the brightness decreases, the level of light pulsation reaches 16%.

Most brightly the lamp shines at a color temperature of 4000K. With a decrease or increase in color temperature, the luminous flux decreases:

2200K 169 lm

The color temperature between 2600K and 3300K is very difficult to establish - it is a microscopic movement of the finger across the screen left-right. In ten minutes of torment, I never managed to achieve 2700 K. In the appendix, the color temperature is visible only after the preset is saved as favorites (it is shown as a comment), but this color temperature is too high - with real 4145K, it shows 4472K.

In color mode at full brightness, the lamp gives 100-180 lm, depending on the color. Pulsation in color mode also does not exceed 16% in any color and brightness.

Although the YLDP02YL lamp is sold as a lamp with a variable color temperature, it is important to bear in mind that in the warm light mode it gives twice as little light, and in the color mode it gives even less. It can be said that at 4000K it shines like a 60-watt incandescent lamp, at 6100K or 3300K as a 40-watt lamp, at 2600K only as a 25-watt one, and in color mode, as a 15-watt incandescent lamp.

During operation, the lamp is always quietly buzzing, while the volume and nature of the sound depends on the mode. At a distance of 1 meter during the day the noise of the lamp is no longer audible.

The minimum price at which I managed to find on Xiaomi Yeelight lamp YLDP01YL 220V 4000K - $ 12.74.
