Not so long ago, everyone talked about the problem of finding the right information on the Internet. Now another problem appears - you can find almost anything, but what to do next? If the information was needed for one-time use, then there is no problem - you can even forget. And if it is useful not only "here and now"? Many people use online and offline notebooks, bookmarks, and even personal wikis ... But for me personally, they all gradually turned into a “graveyard of information”, in which you also need to constantly search for something or constantly organize and optimize everything. Is it possible to store information, at least in small volumes, immediately in memory? In human memory?
Immediately make a reservation that this is not about some miracle techniques and black and white magic. We are talking about a combination of interval repetition and fairly simple exercises, implemented as a simple program for a smartphone.
So, the idea is simple - to memorize short passages of textual information (for example, aphorisms, definitions, ideas that you don’t want to forget, etc.). To do this, you can use two simple techniques: interval repetition and exercises for working with text.
Interval repetition is a favorite technology of numerous “word simulators”. The point is quite simple - the program prompts the user to remember the material at ever larger intervals if he successfully remembers it, and vice versa - shortens the intervals if the user cannot remember the material. For example, if you want to memorize the translation of the word cat - cat
, the interval repetition program will first ask you to reproduce the translation in an hour, and if you have successfully done this, then the next time is in two hours, then in four hours, and so on. If you made a mistake and incorrectly remembered the translation, then the interval on the contrary - will be reduced. There are a lot of different implementations (usually used to memorize words), but they have the same principle.
Work with short text
With the memorization of words and their translations everything is simple - type in a word or its translation (as an option, choose from several data). But with the text it does not work out - to write the whole text at once is difficult, and not necessary. In most cases, it makes no sense to memorize the text actively, that is, to be able to reproduce it completely. It is enough to remember its meaning. But the very meaning of the message is not contained in all words, but only in the main ones. For example, prepositions and pronouns are not as important for memorizing essence as nouns and verbs.
It turned out a simple application that periodically displays text in the form of three different types of tasks using the interval repetition algorithm.
The first type - you need to try to remember the whole text, almost all the words in which are closed. You can open a certain number of words, but if you open more - the program will decide that the text, alas, is forgotten.
The second option proposes to place the main words in the corresponding gaps in the text. This is a fairly simple task that allows you to remember the essence of the text.
Well, if you need to remember the text in more detail, there is a task in which you need to enter the missing words. It is more complicated and requires good memory (as well as the skill of printing on the screen of a mobile phone).
What can you do about it
Memorizing short texts - proverbs, aphorisms, definitions, good ideas, poems and even formulas (in a text record, of course), etc. Since the application does not depend on a specific language, you can still learn foreign languages (almost any). In general, you can add any short text you want to remember.
The application is essentially an experiment, and therefore free. To try the memorization technology described above, you can install the application from Google Play
