Facebook agreed to meet with representatives of Roskomnadzor

The other day it became known that representatives of the social networking site Facebook decided to meet with officials of the Federal Service for Supervision in the Field of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Communications. This was stated by the head of department, Alexander Zharov.

“Facebook accepted the offer and said that they could come in December-January, he said . The head of Roskomnadzor also noted that the department has accumulated a number of questions for Facebook, and it was it that proposed the meeting.

As for the subject of the meeting, Zharov told about it: “The subject of the meeting concerns the regulation of the Internet in Russia - the removal of illegal content from the social network and the localization of databases in Russia. This is just a working meeting, which we periodically arrange. ”

As for Facebook, then maybe the social network took into account the warning of Roskomnadzor about the possible blocking of the social network within the country. Previously, the company was engaged in considering options for the implementation of the law. “We proceed from the position of goodwill, because the company has written us an official letter, so we will not check it until this point. And after that moment we will immediately check it, ”said Zarov.

The words of Zharov about a possible blocking of Facebook were confirmed by the head of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media. Nikolai Nikiforov said that Facebook will be really blocked if the organization refuses to comply with the requirements of the law.

“If this is done consistently, then in that case, I think, the legislator will not leave us any other ways, except how to apply such measures as blocking,” Nikiforov said.

The fact that Facebook is ready to fulfill the requirements of Russian legislation and transfer servers with personal data of Russians in Russia, it became known in early November 2017.
